Convention Agenda
Friday night will kickoff at 6 p.m. with hors de oeuvres, socializing, and a cash bar. One of the most important aspects of our Convention is the opportunity to meet and network with other members, when you can recharge your batteries, catch up with old friends, make new ones, and share new ideas and strategy.
On Saturday, workshops and presentations will be provided for activists who want to rev up their involvement in the liberty movement, including:
- The Illinois Constitutional Convention (ConCon)
- Libertarian Outreach
- Transparency in Government
- The Freedom of Information Act
- School Choice
- A Toastmasters International demonstration meeting
During the convention we will also hear Libertarian Candidate for US Senate, Larry Stafford as well as Dan Druck and Allan Stevo, congressional candidates who are engaged in law suits challenging ballot access laws in Illinois.
Libertarian Jeopardy will return this year as our most knowledgeable members are pitted against each other for the title of LP Illinois Libertarian Jeopardy Champion.
Will there be a Libertarian in the house to beat 2007 champion Dan O'Connell? You'll have to be there to find out.
Saturday night's main event is a banquet followed by a presentation by our headliner, Libertarian Candidate for U.S. President, Bob Barr!
Bob is pictured (left) with long-time Illinois Libertarian Fran Holt at the 2008 Libertarian Party nominating convention in Denver.
The banquet will be bracketed by silent and live auctions of products and services. This is one of our main fundraising activities and you can make it possible by donating to the cause.
Donations range from baked goods to gold coins, from restaurant and hotel gift certificates to professional services.
All donations are gratefully accepted at the door, but we do appreciate advance notice to help us organize. So, please send an email regarding any donations you plan to bring to gro.sionillIPL@noitnevnoC.
Saturday night we also give awards to those who have provided exceptional service to advancing liberty in Illinois. If you would like to nominate an outstanding Illinois Libertarian, call State Chair Val Vetter at 800-735-1776.
Business Meeting
On Sunday we have our annual business meeting, which includes:
Officer reports - Including those from the State Chair, Membership Chair, and Treasurer.- Officer elections - Every officer position is up for election this year. Please consider becoming a liberty leader in Illinois by volunteering for one of these vital positions. Call State Chair Val Vetter at 800-735-1776 for more information.
- Bylaw changes - LP Illinois members can vote on proposed changes to the Party Bylaws. Download the current Bylaws and the proposed changes.
All members of the Party are welcome to attend. There is no charge if you would like to only attend the business meeting, however, you must be a LP Illinois member by September 5th, 2008 to be eligible to vote. If you are unsure of your membership status, email gro.sionillIPL@pihsrebmeM
The business meeting is followed by a short State Organizing Committee meeting, so the new officers and chapter representatives can get moving on any urgent issues.
