Candidate Training – March 11th, 2023
Have you ever listened to soundbites or met a candidate and thought, “I can do a better job than this,” or “This candidate is ignoring the
issues facing us.” Maybe you are just curious why we don’t get better candidates on the ballot.
If you are new to running for local or state legislative office, you may not know where to start. From planning your campaign to getting staff and getting out the vote, there is a lot to learn.
This March, The Libertarian Party of Illinois is holding a 4-hour candidate training online broken into two 2-hour sessions on Saturday, March 11th. If you are new to the party, it’s a good idea to become educated about the election process, how to effectively lead and win an election. This campaign course is meant to get you up and running with little or no experience; although, even experienced candidates can learn some important lessons in this campaign course.
Learn where to start; when and how to file; how campaigns are run; what is needed to run a campaign, and how to map out a winning strategy.
Our trainers will be Russ Clark and Brian Nichols.
.
Russ Clark is the current treasurer of the Libertarian Party of Illinois. Russ has been working in the energy infrastructure space for many years. He has testified before elected officials and worked with C-Level executives to ensure energy infrastructure and workforces are ready for the 21st century. Russ has been a policy analyst and precinct analyst for several candidates including Larry Sharpe and Jesse White. He has gathered petition signatures, walked precincts, and helped with digital campaigns since 2016 for the Libertarian Party of Illinois. Russ will cover the processes for preparing to run, evaluating opponents, campaign management, getting on the ballot and getting out the vote. This is campaign mechanics.
Brian Nichols is the host of the Brian Nichols Podcast and a sales and marketing executive in the greater telecommunications/cybersecurity sector. He’s spent years working with C-Level executives to help them “future-proof” their company’s infrastructure for an uncertain future. Now, with his team of industry pros, they are taking proven sales and marketing techniques and bringing them to the world of politics. Instead of focusing on winning arguments, he’s teaching the basic fundamentals of sales and marketing and how we can use them to WIN in the world of politics; teaching you how to meet people where they’re at on the issues they care about. This is campaign messaging.
We know your time is valuable. We don’t want you tied to a computer all weekend having COVID flashbacks. This will be a fun workshop.
Russ will forward his slide deck to you in advance so you can review it an ask questions. Brian Nichols has a FREE book on campaign messaging here that will help you get voters to listen, not tune you out.
BOTH sessions should be attended by experienced or new candidates. Each session is 2 hours each: Session I of the March 11 training is at 10 AM CST and the second session begins at 4 PM CST. All for a $25 dollar donation to the Libertarian Party of Illinois.
We hope you can make it.
